Why are used ones so cheap?

And so plentiful?

Are they like really bad or something?

EDIT:

I actually never knew about how unreliable it was. Maybe I should have done some research.

“For this reason, I have taken to measuring automotive reliability on a scale I’ve dubbed the “Audi Allroad Scale Of Unreliability,” which rates cars based on how close they are to the original Audi Allroad in terms of potential for random four-figure maintenance bills.”

They are bad. Just Google “Audi Allroad problems” and see for yourself.

They’re just like normal Audis, but they break more often.

Well, if they are cheap, go buy one.

Then realize there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Audi.

How far will you get in component failure before you cry enough?

Front suspension bushings

Timing belt on the V6

Accessory drive belt on the V6

The interior computers

Electronics

The air suspension

The V6 eats turbos for breakfast, lunch and dinner

Requires a special tool or VCDS to do *anything*

Really isn’t any better than an A6 Avant

Will make you wish you had DeMuro’s Range Rover instead

I think that’s a question for mattc993 .

Great axe — just replace the handle and the head and you’re good to go!

A Navy buddy had an A6 with the 2.7L Bi Turbo. Same chassis, same engine as the AllRoad. Turbos on it failed. The dealer wanted something obscene, like $18k to replace them out of warranty.

So this guy asks another Navy buddy, who was a former SAE Certified Mechanic and liked to do sidework, if he’d be willing to do the job. I used to go hang out a his place and wrench with him and drink beers, just for fun and shooting the breeze. Long story short the A6 owner got 2 rebuilt turbos on eBay for like $4k, and it took us 2 weeks, working all day on the weekends and several hours every evening after work to get this job done. We basically had to disassemble the entire front end of the car. It was such a bad experience I don’t think I could bring myself to ever own an Audi.

$18k? Even for a dealer I find that hard to believe. brand new replacment k03s cost $1800, and another grand for labor. If he paid $4k for stock turbos I have some beach front property in AZ to sell.

Source: had to replace the same turbos on the same engine in my S4.

Maybe it was 8k, but I thought for sure it was a lot more than that. Also, this was back in 2007, when the car was only a couple years old.

Also, as I mentioned, we were all Navy - sadly, people love to rip sailors off, especially car dealers, for some reason.

On the B5 S4, it requires full removal of the engine and front transaxle in order to replace turbos.

Yeah, after mine dies and gets scrapped, I will never own another Audi.
